200 000 waiting for RAF payouts
More than 200 000 people are waiting for compensation payments from the Road Accident Fund according to a report in The New Age published on Friday. It says that a report, tabled by the Financial Services Board's Dube Tshidi, shows that the RAF's deficit has increased by R2 billion to R42 billion.

In the report, tabled in Parliament on Thursday, 4 August 2011, Tshidi said that fruitless and wasteful expenditure of R23 million was paid by the RAF to the sheriff to cover interest costs incurred as a result of delays in settling claims.
The New Age says that claims paid to accident victims amounted to R11,4 billion in the 2009-2010 financial year.
