China City Mall targeted by false ICASA inspector

A shop owner in China Mall, suspicious of Ahmed Abduliah, a 37-year old Pakistani purporting to be an ICASA inspector, called his local ICASA inspector to discover that the man was not employed by the authority. He phoned the police at Langlaagte and the man was arrested and charged with fraud.

It is alleged that Abduliah was in possession of the radio equipment type approval application forms and was checking whether cellular phones were type approved. After threatening three shop owners at the China City Mall, one of the shop owners asked if he could produce his ICASA inspectors' card but the man failed to do so.

A fraud case was opened by the three shop owners and ICASA will engage with the police to have this man charged further in terms of the ICASA Act. The authority warns cellular phone shop owners and all stakeholders to be careful of such bogus inspectors and to make sure that they know who their local ICASA inspectors are.
