Kenya: Orange roaming service goes live

Speaking when he confirmed the activation of the new roaming service, Telkom Kenya chief executive officer, Mickael Ghossein, said the service had been developed as part of a strategy to enhance the range of value added services for Orange subscribers.

“Following the launch of the enhanced Orange Roaming service, our subscribers can now keep in touch in almost any part of the world using their local Orange line,” Ghossein said.

And added: “through the extensive network of Orange roaming agreements across the globe we are most likely the only network with such an extensive seamless reach.”

Orange subcribers travelling abroad can also use the services of another foreign operator where Orange has a commercial roaming agreement in place to permit this.

Orange subscribers may also make use of the Orange World service which is a GPRS/WAP-based internet service.

The launch of the new service for Orange Mobile subscribers comes recently after the announcement confirming the commencement of 3G trials ahead of a scheduled commercial deployment.

To rollout the 3G network, Orange is partnering with Ericsson. Ericsson will provide an end-to-end solution for the Orange 3G network including network design, implementation, rollout, testing and operational support.
