Showcasing local crafts

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality's annual agricultural Market day is to showcase projects by local farmers and communities, giving them the opportunity to advertise and promote their products to potential clients.

The market day themed: "Vukuzenzele" will take place on 29 February 2008 at Duduza Multipurpose Centre in Duduza.

Ekurhuleni spokesperson, Zweli Dlamini said the event is aimed at creating public awareness and interest in poverty alleviation projects within the region, and encourages locals to support local entities trying to earn a living through agriculture and handcraft.

“Improving the economy within communities is a priority for the metro and encouraging residents to buy local produce and goods made by local crafters is one fundamental way to achieve this,” said Dlamini.

The municipality in partnership with the Gauteng Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Environment will use the day to educate manufacturers and farmers on how the market operates for their own success.

He said the council wants to inculcate the culture of Proudly Ekurhuleni, adding that on the day, participants will also be taken to an operating market where they will learn the tricks of the trade.

The event is to take place from 10am to 2pm and the municipality has encouraged people of Ekurhuleni, especially Duduza and surrounding areas to come out in numbers.
