Show profile Hide profileLaurika Steenkamp holds a B.Mus.Hons (Education) degree from the University of Stellenbosch and has 20 years' experience in Music Education. After completing her degree, she was appointed as a Trainer at the Correctional Services Band in Kroonstad. She was also instrumental in setting up a Sport and Arts and Culture program and the development of a new curriculum for the students after demilitarization. During this time she initiated and managed many projects at the College, as well as in the previously disadvantaged communities, including a string instrument programme that was funded by the local Town Council.
In 2001 Laurika was appointed as a music teacher at Rondebosch Boy's Preparatory school and by 2004 she was promoted to Head of the Music. In 2007 the Music Department received an Award of Excellence in Primary School Teaching from the WCED.
From 2008 - June 2011, she was the CEO and owner of MusicatWork Recording Studio and record label. Laurika still produces and is currently working on Heavenly Quartez's album which is due for release in November 2011.
Laurika also runs and produced Cool Classic Kidz, a Music Club and Radio program on Fine Music Radio 101.3, aimed at inspiring and developing the youth in the Western Cape through music and at the same time growing the Classical and Jazz Industry in the Western Cape. MusicatWork has been nominated for a BASA award 2011 in the First Time Sponsor division for Cool Classic Kidz. Cool Classic Kidz also has a road show that performs at Festivals and Schools. They have been invited to perform at the Suidoosterfees in Cape Town in 2012.
Laurika has recently been appointed as Outreach and Education manager at the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra. Recently she was nominated as a finalist in the CEO Magazines "Most Influential Women in Government and Business" for Arts and Culture 2011. The winner will be announced at an Awards ceremony on the 5 August 2011.
