I have been in the mining industry since 1989 when I have started at Gold Fields South Africa as a Learner Official. After the first five years of my career I have obtained a National Higher Diploma in Metalliferous Mining as well as a Mine Managers Certificate of Competence.
In 1999 I have decided to change and accepted an appointment as a Section Manager with an Underground Diamond Mine in the Northern Cape Province in South Africa. I have worked my way up in this company to Mine Manager and ultimately the Managing Director of the company. The company was sold and that is when I had to move on again.
At that stage I have joined a surface alluvial diamond mining operation where we did volumes in excess of 300 000 tons per month. Unfortunately I had to leave after two years and took up a position as a Mine Manager in an Open- Pit Calcite operation that also lasted two years up and till the disaster with the World Economic situation.
I then reverted back to the Gold Mining Industry and accepted a position as a Production Manager with the Gold Mines in the West Wits region in South Africa. I have been with this company for just over two years when I was offered a position in Zambia where they have almost double my salary and I just could not decline at that stage.
The contract in Zambia has come to an end during April 2012 and we have been retrenched as of the 15th of April 2012.
After coming back from Zambia I have started with a Mining Engineering Consulting Company in Revonia- Gauteng and I am still with them.
