    Rwanda jails journalist

A former Rwandan radio and television journalist has been sentenced to life in jail for inciting violence during the 1994 genocide in Rwanda. According to local reports, a court in Kigali has convicted Valerie Bemeriki of planning genocide, inciting Hutus to commit violence and complicity in several murders.

The journalist was one of the most prominent voices of Radio Milles Collines, which became famous for its role in encouraging Hutus to kill Tutsis. During the trial she admitted to inciting violence. Bemeriki's is the latest in a series of trials concerning the 1994 genocide.

The 100-day-long conflict left around 800,000 people dead, most of them ethnic Tutsis.
