Lufthansa re-introduces the Airbus A350 between Munich and Cape Town

"Furthermore, the restart of nonstop flight service between the Mother City and Munich as one of Lufthansa’s major hubs is yet another significant step to support the restart of tourism in South Africa, Our customers can once again look forward to exploring the region, after many months of travel restrictions between South Africa and Germany."

Air travel connectivity

Jost Lammers, CEO of Munich Airport, adds: We are delighted that there is now once again a regular nonstop service from Munich to South Africa, which is sure to meet with great demand. Munich Airport has long been linked with the operators of the major South African airports through a Sister Airport Agreement. It is great that our 'airport family' is once again moving a little closer together thanks to the new Lufthansa connection."

With the re-introduction of the flight, Lufthansa brings back the A350-900, which is an eco-efficient long haul aircraft. This service will offer a daily morning departure from Cape Town to Munich, except Tuesdays and Thursdays. The total Lufthansa Group flight capacity for the European winter schedule to the Mother City will therefore increase to twelve weekly flights.

In addition, the Lufthansa Group network portfolio to and from South Africa is further enhanced with a daily Lufthansa flight between Johannesburg and Frankfurt, as well as a daily Swiss flight between Johannesburg and Zurich. Following these capacity increases, the Lufthansa Group offers this winter in total 26 weekly connections from South Africa, underlining the importance of the region within the Groups global route network.
