Maize futures slip on firmer rand

South African maize futures ended slightly weaker on Monday, 18 November, due to a firmer rand and lower international prices.

The December 2013 white maize contract lost R15 to R2‚413 a ton‚ with the March 2014 contract shedding R14.20 to R2‚393.80 a ton and the July 2014 white maize contract edging down R8 to R2‚098 a ton.

The December 2013 yellow maize contract finished R11 weaker at R2‚361 a ton‚ but March 2014 yellow maize edged up R7 to R2‚300 a ton while the July 2014 yellow maize contract lost R12.80 to R2‚042.20 a ton.

The December 2013 wheat contract lost R15 to R3‚530 a ton‚ with March 2014 wheat dipping R8 to R3‚619 a ton but the July 2014 wheat contract gained R5 to R3‚715 a ton.

The rand firmed to R10.09 to the dollar during the session‚ from R10.15/$ at Friday's close.
