TASA Gauteng appoints new chairperson

The Toolmaking Association of South Africa (TASA) Gauteng Executive unanimously elected Vusumuzi Mkhize as its new chairperson at a duly constituted special Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in June 2013.

Vusumuzi Mkhize, managing director of ThinkTank Engineers, succeeds Makhosana Phil Sipengane following his resignation from the chairperson position earlier this year. Mkhize is a registered professional engineer who has attained over 15 years experience in engineering, project management and leadership in various sectors of industry, including automotive, chemical and petrochemical, and has been involved extensively in the TDM industry, both locally and internationally.

Mkhize's vast accomplishments in the field have positioned him to successfully lead the TASA Executive Committee and represent TASA in external committees. His involvement in developing turnaround strategies in operations and maintenance departments using lean manufacturing toolkits have formed an integral part of TASA Gauteng's objectives to provide local tool making companies with support systems that will assist them in becoming more competitive through increased capacity and improved delivery methods.

Mkhize's role

As chairperson, Mkhize will be responsible for driving initiatives such as skills and enterprise development, and tooling clusters along with promoting TASA's vision for positive change through all partners within the TDM industry as well as other stakeholders such as Government, Training Institutions and interested parties from civil society.

The TASA Gauteng Executive Committee is made up of 12 members elected from the TASA Gauteng members to represent and guide the interests and strategies of TASA as the official representative body of the Tool, Die and Mouldmaking (TDM) and Precision Machining industry in Gauteng.
