Unemployment can yet become a threat to stability

Following a costly strike season, South African economy observers engage in debate regarding job creation and high unemployment. SO far, 2011 has not proven to be "the year of job creation" promised by President Jacob Zuma in February.

Specific areas for concern are the high number of unemployable and unemployed youth, further service delivery protests, intensifying competition for jobs and resources, the inflexible stance of unions, demanding "decent jobs", and the increasing wealth gap.
