Verushka Louw and Thaakiya Ajam-Dollie, both second year students doing the Hospitality Management Diploma, each received a bursary of R25 000 towards their final-year studies.

"IHS hosts an annual bursary competition at each of our campuses for matric learners, which covers tuition fees for any IHS programme, plus a 50% fee for the runners-up," explains Ruth Paulsen, Marketing Director of IHS.

"But it's important for us to expose our students to supplementary bursary opportunities through our partnerships and industry associations once they are studying as well. We are delighted to see Verushka and Thaakiya recognised by a prestigious body like FEDHASA, which is the official representative of the South African hospitality industry, and acknowledged by the government," she added.

"Being awarded the FEDHASA bursary has sparked the confidence I need to push myself in my final year and to make a success of my future career," expressed Verushka. For Thaakiyah, the bursary has motivated her to one day be able to give someone else the opportunity to complete their studies too. "I also want to be a part of improving the future of our industry," she said.

Applications to the FEDHASA Cape Town Bursary Fund is open to students from current FEDHASA member training institutions, and is awarded to applicants who show a solid and consistent academic performance. Amongst other criteria, they also have strong recommendations from lecturers and teachers.
