Honda Kyalami donates bike to shack fire victim

Honda Kyalami has come to the aid of a young Pretoria motorcycle enthusiast after he lost his motorcycle in a shack fire on Tuesday morning, 29 May 2012. 26 year-old Chengetai Chauke was out looking for work when his shack, along with nine others, was razed to the ground in the Woodlane informal settlement after a gas stove fell over and started a devastating fire.

Chauke's prized motorcycle, which he had purchased for R3,350 and which he had been repairing to get into roadworthy condition, was destroyed in the blaze. It was Chauke's intention to use the bike to assist him in gaining employment.

Craig Langton, the dealer principal at Honda Kyalami was so touched when he heard of Chauke's misfortune that he decided to donate a brand new Honda Ace 125cc motorcycle (valued at R8,900) to Chauke. Honda Kyalami will carry the costs of licensing and registration of the bike and will also service the bike at no charge to Chauke for two years and in addition, the dealership has facilitated rider training for Chauke at the Honda Academy.

"We hope that this will enable Chengetai to get back on his feet and we also hope that he will soon find employment," said Langton.

Chauke will also receive a Vega helmet, a JAG jacket, TRP gloves and accessories to the value of R3,900 from one of the leading distributors of motorcycling apparel and accessories, TRP Distributors. This will ensure that he is equipped with the right gear for riding his new bike.

Chauke was overjoyed at Honda Kyalami's generosity. "I can't believe that I am getting a new bike, and I only think that it will sink in when I actually see it," said Chauke. "I was so sad at the loss of my bike, particularly as I was hoping that having my own transport would make it easier for me to find work. I am truly grateful to Honda Kyalami and their suppliers for their kindness."
