'Law and Regulation in a Digital South Africa' seminar

A seminar, entitled 'Law and Regulation in a Digital South Africa', will be held in Johannesburg this Friday, 28 August 2015.

Hosted by the IAB SA, in association with EndCode, some of the country's top legal and regulatory experts will discuss the digital landscape in South Africa.

Andrew Allison, Head of Regulatory Affairs of IAB SA says, "The digital landscape's rapid growth and evolution means that businesses, individuals and media connect and engage in ways they never have before. While this is a largely positive development, the explosion of communication on a public platform has brought with it unchartered legal complexity."

Attendees can expect interactive and practical context to some of the challenges currently facing our rapidly growing online marketing and communications economy. The diverse group of speakers will shed light on some of the major legal changes South Africa can expect in the near future.

They will also share advice and tips on how to deal with regulatory bodies such the Film and Publications Board (FPB) and the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA). This is particularly pertinent, given IAB South Africa's recent engagement with the FPB on its bid to regulate online content produced in South Africa.

The seminar will discuss what POPI and data privacy laws mean for online businesses and which contracts and policies digital agencies and businesses should have in place to manage legal risks and ensure compliance with the law.

Guests can expect practical discussions led by Andrew Allison; Pria Chetty and Denis Fouche of Endcode; Stephan Vos of Vos Marketing Regulation; Francis Cronje of Infoseal; and Stuart Scott of Webber Wentzel.

The seminar will hold particular relevance for chief marketing officers, brand managers, strategists, CRM specialists, data analysts, media planners, social media managers, content planners, copywriters, account managers, operations managers, project managers, in-house lawyers, legal advisors, privacy/information officers, compliance officers, financial directors and financial managers, business owners and anyone generally involved in marketing and advertising.
