SA Navy to host eighth defence symposium
According to the Navy, the aim of the symposium is to highlight key areas of military and industrial participation, both nationally and within the Southern African Development Community (SADC), in order to achieve indigenous joint air defence.
The symposium will be held under the theme 'Integrated Joint Air Defence (JAD) within the Southern African Development Community'.
Briefing the media in Pretoria, Rear-Admiral Karl Wiesner said the forthcoming symposium was a platform for information sharing on JAD issues.
Wiesner said the symposium was aligned with government's commitment to SADC as an enabler of regional integration and sustainable development, with emphasis on mutual cooperation in the defence and security domains.
He said since 1997, SAJADS has established itself as a premium conference in the SANDF and has attracted more than 300 delegates locally and abroad.
The biennial symposium has an international flavour and will feature senior local and foreign speakers, including attendance by senior local and foreign military representatives, Chiefs of Services of the SANDF and SADC countries and industry.
