SA rates poorly in corruption index

Perceptions about corruption in SA remain worrying, reports Mail & Guardian, with another poor score in the Transparency International's 2014 Corruption Perceptions Index.

According to the report, the annual index, released today, shows that South Africa scored 44 out of 100 and ranked 67 of the 175 surveyed countries and territories.

Corruption Watch, South Africa's corruption watchdog, reports Mail & Guardian, "raised 'great concern' that the country has for the past three years scored below 50. Transparency International said this indicated a significant corruption problem, and Corruption Watch stressed a dismal performance for a third year in a row 'places South Africa in precarious territory'."
