Gauteng Health Department commits to paying suppliers

The Gauteng Department of Health and Social Development has noted a statement issued earlier this week by SAMED stating that it owes huge amounts of money to suppliers and has in turn acknowledged that it does carry these debts.

MEC Ntombi Mekgwe held a meeting with suppliers in September where she reiterated the Department's commitment to pay and yesterday, the Gauteng Department of Finance (GDF) announced that it has made more money available to pay debts.

GDF will identify possible under-spending which should be surrendered to the Provincial Revenue Fund for reallocation to Health to address accruals since the department was experiencing significant pressures in paying historical debts. The provincial government believes that this strategy will lead to full payment of accruals before this term of office comes to an ends.

In its statement the department states "we are hopeful that through these additional funds and initiatives, we will be able to bring relief to suppliers.

"We would like to reiterate that the department is fully aware and committed to meeting all its past and future obligations to suppliers."
