He participated in the Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon and the 2013 Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour wearing just his rhino horn to raise money for the fight against rhino poaching.
"If down dressing, embellished with nothing but a fake rhino horn, is what it takes to draw attention to the rhino poaching crisis in Africa, then Rocking the Daisies offers their full support. Now in its sixth year running, this year's 'Cycle to Daisies' will become a fully-fledged fundraising event in the name of rhino awareness," said a release issued by RTD organisers, Seed Experiences.
Upon Newman's completion of this year's Cycle to Daisies, RTD plans to donate R10,000 to Project Rhino KZN.
Make a noise and raise awareness
Cyclists entering the annual event are encouraged to ride with Newman, and dress down in order to make a noise and raise awareness for the worthy cause.
In addition to this, Rocking the Daisies is challenging participants of the cycle to raise funds in an individual capacity. The cyclist who raises the most money for Project Rhino KZN by the end of the race, will be rewarded with a lifetime ticket to the music festival.
All corporates, individuals and cyclists are invited to get involved; spaces for Cycle the Daisies are limited.
