Inspiring Transformation - Psychology Festival of Learning

Inspiring Transformation is the theme for the annual Psychology Festival of Learning, which will be hosted by SACAP (The South African College of Applied Psychology) at their Johannesburg campus on 19-20 May and at their Cape Town campus on 26-27 September.
Inspiring Transformation - Psychology Festival of Learning

SACAP is mobilised by a vision of an empowered, caring society of integrated individuals and believes that in order to address the harsh realities that exist within South Africa we need to train an inspired workforce of counsellors, psychologists, coaches and leaders. Inspiring Transformation is about all the success stories and ideas that have inspired and are still inspiring transformation in our communities, families and workplaces.

“A process of defined and radical change is how some define ‘transformation’. Through the Festival of Learning we don’t just want to share stories about transformation, we want to inspire South Africans to identify where transformation and change is needed and to be part of the transformation process”, says Lance Katz, SACAP’s CEO.

With over 50 guest speakers the festival offers a wide range of one-hour talks. Talk topics for the Cape Town event include: “The Art of Courage” (Simon Ekin); “End the 4 Wars – a self-coached journey to peace” (Glenn Douglas-Haig); “The importance and power of storytelling in poetry” (Amy Kaye); “Art psychotherapy in the South African context – one brushstroke at a time” (Angela Rackstraw). In Johannesburg the programme features: “Money does not make the world go round. Relationships do” (Paula Quinsee); “Lessons from a boxing gym in Hillbrow” (Luke Lamprecht); “Dislocation Theory – A successor to the official view of addiction”; and “Transformation through embodying resilience” (Wendy Ward).

After successfully introducing a short talk programme in 2015, the festival will once again open with a short talk evening programme in both Cape Town and Johannesburg. The evenings will each feature eight short talks including topics such as “Addiction Recovery – a golden opportunity for transformation” (John Smith); “Transformation of higher education through social entrepreneurship” (Lance Katz); “Transforming Divorce” (Nadia Thonnard); and “The role of positive psychology: building resilience and promoting change” (Marlo Martin).
