Cables worth R23-million stolen
Copper cables valued at R23-million (equivalent to 356 tons) were stolen in May, R4,5-million less than in April according to the South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry's latest Copper Barometer. The barometer reached a record high of R34,7-million in March, according to reports from Business Live, News24 and IOL News.
Business Live, News24 and IOL News report that Sacci's chief executive Neren Rau has said the reason thefts dropped is because there was better co-operation between business and the police services, greater communication and a pooling of resources to combat cable theft.
