Eskom: we met SA's 36.5 GW peak demand in June
According to Esi-africa, SA winter electricity demand has seen peaks of about 35 GW at the end of June, particularly during the evening peak hours from 5pm to 9pm. The most critical period within this peak, the publication says, is from 5pm until 7pm when a large number of residential sector customers return home from work.
South Africa's power utility Eskom said that at the end of June it had capacity to meet this 36.5 GW peak demand. According to Esi-africa, Eskom said it continues with its planned power stations maintenance as a matter of great priority. Eskom said it is making significant progress with its programme of preventative maintenance, in an effort to ensure a stable power system.
