#FNBJAF20 winners announced

The winners of the #FNBJAF20 have been announced. In line with the FNB JoburgArtFair 2018, the initiative asked the public to vote for artists who have the potential to shape and inspire the current and future global art scene.

The top 20 winners list comprises exciting artists from several different African countries, among them São Tomé, Angola, South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Mozambique.

An important addition to the art competition landscape, #FNBJAF20 was inaugurated as a response to the increasing interest in contemporary African art experienced by the FNB JoburgArtFair since it launched. In partnership with FNB, #FNBJAF20 is aimed at creating opportunities for new artistic talent that is destined to follow in the footsteps of those artists who have been catapulted onto the international stage after being showcased at the Fair.

The initial list was created during July when a selection of curators, collectors, gallerists, and art platforms was approached to put forward (up to three) new contemporary artists with the ability to influence the international art world. This list of recommended new artists was then added to by the general public who could either vote for one of the artists already included or put forward a recommendation of their own. Voting took place online and closed on 4 September 2018.
