Vredefest Elektro

The idea of the album came about when music ambassador and MK founder Herman Pretorius played a remix of Hyg Duiwel to Hunter and Pierre from Die Heuwels Fantasties. “This is how we will remember him (Herman). Balls to the wall. Vrede my vriend.” Hunter & Pierre (Die Heuwels Fantasties)

The Electro scene in SA seems to be growing at a fast rate and more and more formerly straight rock bands seem to be dabbling in a more mixed electro sound. Just look at Fokof collaborating with Jack Parow and Haezer remixing Francois Van Coke's Dans Dans Dans and in so doing effectively widening their fan base. While artists like Yesterday's Pupil and Kid of Doom, who are combining electro with rock and live instruments, are incredibly popular at the moment and have been for some time.

If you are into Electro then Vredefest Elekro is definitely for you. As I am still acquiring the taste not all the tracks are currently doing it for me but there are definitely a few stand out songs. Including Jack Parow's hilarious Cooler as Ekke, Kidofdoom's pretty Sweet Brother, Die verlore seun by Gazelle and the trippy Sirens in the night by Haezer and haunting Moonlight by Lark. Tracks that I tend to skip are Enter the Ninja by Die Antwoord, I just can't seem to get past Ninja's bad imitation of Cape Colored accent, Flash Republic's Twister is far to dance floor at Tiger for me and Our Heritage by Die Heuwels Fantasties featuring HHP and the Soweto Gospel Choir is a braai liedjie smothered in way too much cheese.

Though all in all it's a tight compilation album that should have no problem in getting many parties started.
