[Loeries 2009] Swimming down Long Street with Goldfish

The official Saturday night Loeries after-party down Long Street was all but drowned out; the heavens opened up and the Loerie party-goers ran for cover to celebrate at the Long Street Cafe tent. Heaters, dancing and good spirits (both the good will and the alcoholic kind) kept things nice and toasty and the atmosphere didn't seem to be too dampened at all.

The Jupiter Drawing Room team were celebrating their numerous awards and by far seemed to be the most enthusiastic and rowdy bunch to me. Equipped with drum sticks and company flags they stomped and knocked their sticks throughout both awards ceremonies and went on till the early hours of the morning it seems. One Jupiter lady dressed in a 20's style outfit was particularly enthusiastic and prowled the dance floors for unsuspecting bottoms to slap as well as clambering on stage a few times during Goldfish's set to the dismay of the security guards and, rather strangely, another lady standing next to me who later hopped on stage herself. But who can really blame them for wanting to get a little closer to the awesomeness that is Goldfish.

Goldfish were in fine form on Saturday night opening for the awards ceremony that evening as well as DJ'ing at the Long Street Cafe after-party which allowed party-goers to get up close and personal to the action.

Popular African songstress Lira who graced the awards stage earlier that evening joined the Goldfish boys for a rendition of her popular song “Feel Good” and good is exactly how two young men were feeling in the front once they realised Lira was performing. “I just love her” they gushed to me a few times as they gently jostled me out of my prime position in the front.

After Goldfish's set we decided to make a break for it and take advantage of the gap in the rain to head home and bid farewell to Loeries 2009. Here's to 2010…
