#MusicExchange: Chad Saaiman

Chad Saaiman is at the top of his game and 2018 has been a stellar year for him. He's just released a fantastic new single with Youngsta CPT and, to end 2018 off, he and his other band the Black Ties have a fantastic show at GrandWest's Sun Exhibits venue called Sounds like Summer on Friday, 14 December 2018 with Katlego Maboe, Andrea Fortuin, G and T, and Kerwin.

I spoke to Chad, last week, about what makes him tick.

When are you happiest?

I am happiest when I get to see my ideas come into fruition, especially ones that provide a platform for others to thrive.

What does music mean to you?

It’s the foundation of who I am, so it means everything to me.

What is the most enjoyable aspect of your work?

Getting to be a medium for happiness when I am on stage doing a live show.

What drives you: ego or humility?

A bit of both. I think remaining grounded and rooted in morale is part of my character. However, most artists are driven by ego in some way or the other.

Any funny moments on stage?

Yes, once I misjudged the height of the stage and hopped on and tore my pants below my crotch. Needless to say, the exposure was unwelcomed.

It’s your round, what are you drinking?

Whisky, three blocks of ice.

What makes you stand out?

The fine line between R&B and pop I have brought out within my sound.

Nicknames?

C-Sizzle. C-Cat.

If you were not a musician, what would you do?

I would most definitely be a footballer.

Pick five words to describe yourself?

Creative. Authentic. Stubborn. Dreamer. Joker.

Favourite fashion garment?

Black biker leather jacket.

Give us some real proper slang and what it means?

Not really one to use too much slang, but I’d say something like “I just wrote a smash.” Which means a “hit.”

Top of your bucket list?

Used to be White Hart Lane. But the new Spurs Stadium will do.

Your greatest achievement?

Becoming a father.

What do you complain about most often?

Some artists and their sense of entitlement.

What is your fear?

Not being able to express myself with my art.

Happiness is?

Getting to do what you love for a living.

On stage, I tend to?

Crack jokes with the band during the performance.

Where would you like to be right now?

Exactly where I am. : )

Wishes and dreams for 2019?

More excellence. More Fun.
