Dusty Rebels and the Bombshells - a true Lifestyle Festival

Lifestyle festivals are often glorified advertisement exhibitions, with vendors trying to shill 'the latest' (read: 'inordinately expensive') swag your way. But a true Lifestyle Festival should really be about celebrating a way of life, and the people, clothes, music, ideas and trimmings that go with it. Dusty Rebels &The Bombshells (DRTB) is such a festival.

Rockabilly and its associated fixings have influenced popular culture since the 1950s. Today, thanks in part to a resurgence in the music, the cars, burlesque, fashion and film of the era, DRTB is enjoying its third annual event, attended by throngs of doffed-up rebels and bombshells, hot rods, rat rods, and more.

In truth, there's a lot to take in over the 12 hours that the festival runs: Miss Bombshell Betty Pin-up Pageant, Classic Car show, a fashion show that shows off the actual wares of the vendors on site, roller derby, The Dirt Track, burlesque ladies, some of the best genre bands in the city, bars, food vendors, pony rides for the children - it's a day out for the whole family.

Dirt Track

Key amongst the attractions is the Dirt Track, a specially-cleared oval where car enthusiasts show off their dream machines, taking a dust-kicking turn to the delight of the grandstand onlookers. Witnesses swore they've even seen a hearse with a coffin in the back going round last year.

Dusty Rebels and the Bombshells happens on Saturday, 14 November, 2015. It is a single-day festival, but an overnight camping ticket is available (don't drink and drive). The action happens between 12 noon and midnight. More at www.dustyrebelsandthebombshells.co.za
