Beatenberg to support 30 Seconds to Mars

Cape Town-based pop band, Beatenberg, is billed to open for internationally-renowned rock band, 30 Seconds to Mars, at their concert at the Grand Arena, GrandWest on Sunday, 23 November 2014.

According to GrandWest's PR Manager, Elouise Matthys, Beatenberg kicks off the show at 19h30, with 30 Seconds to Mars on stage at 20h30, half an hour later than originally planned.

"We welcome the announcement that one of Cape Town's fast-rising pop bands has been chosen to open for 30 Seconds to Mars later this month. Opening for such a popular international band is a super opportunity for Beatenberg to showcase the exceptional homegrown talent that exists here in Cape Town," she adds.

Beatenberg to support 30 Seconds to Mars

Beatenberg is a fresh new, three-piece band comprising Capetonians Matthew Field, who sings and plays the guitar, Ross Dorkin, on bass, and Robin Brink on drums.

Despite being in love with and schooled in 'serious music' like Beethoven, Debussy and John Coltrane, (Ross and Matthew studied music together at the University of Cape Town) Beatenberg is adamant that they are heard as 'pop music', which they believe is actually quite serious too.

Their song "Pluto (Remember You)", a collaboration with house producer DJ Clock is touted as the biggest crossover song since Mandoza's Nkalakatha and spent 14 weeks as the most-played song on radio in South Africa. From Umhlobo Wenene to East Coast Radio to Metro FM, the song was a hit.

Beatenberg recently released their second album,Hanging Gardens of Beatenberg. The album is produced by the three members and was recorded at the heavenly Sunset Studios in Stellenbosch.

Dorkin describes it as a pop record, comprising material spanning three years as well as very recent material. There are 13 songs on the album.

Fans can expect to hear songs from the album and some of their earlier songs at their show before 30 Seconds to Mars on 23 November 2014.

There are still some tickets available for the event at Computicket.
