First EP from Basson Laubscher & The Violent Free Peace
The first official release from Basson Laubscher & The Violent Free Peace is a seven-track EP entitled "Shakedown". The EP was recorded in full stereo sound at Sunset Recording Studios in Stellenbosch with producer Jurgen von Wechmar and features a blend of music for every taste; from hard rocking blues, country ballads and slow smokey blues to upbeat folk songs and dark muddy soundscapes.
Basson took his time with the EP to make sure to find musicians who had just the right kind of magic to fit into the collective. He also took his time with writing this new material by not forcing the creative process.
The songs featured on "Shakedown" were written over the last two years and recorded with Jurgen von Wechmar. He also collaborated with pianist Riaan Niewenhuis, Marise Landman, Johnathan Veldhuysen on the mandolin, and Rob "Big Bob" Nagel on the harmonica. Drummer Tim Rankin also tracked all of the drums on the EP.
