Happy Shabalala returns to Joburg stage

The one-man comedy, Happy Shabalala, starring Harry Sideropoulos, will be returning to The Fringe at the Joburg Theatre on 14 October, running until 29 November 2009.
Happy Shabalala returns to Joburg stage

Happy Shabalala was born out of a deep need to laugh at the actions of people and circumstances in South Africa, which many are understandably not finding that funny right now - from the irritating but mundane, to the poignant and pressing, important issues of the day. This is a show about South African life as it is today - knowing that while it isn't always so humorous, laughing at it helps.

Combining stand-up comedy, skit-satire and song and dance, Happy Shabalala is intelligently irreverent, hilariously insightful, thought-provoking, funny and ultimately very positive.

Updated and tweaked

Following last year's success, the show has been updated and tweaked, whilst keeping the core characters and adding some new ones. The ever-popular Marcelo - the Italian tour guide, Tyrone the Leb and Mrs Liebowitz that audiences so enjoyed the first time round will return with their own tongue-in-cheek humour and biting wit.

Sideropoulos said: “The show is structured in such a way to include by-the-minute changes to incorporate today's ever-changing political climate. I love the 'in your face' aspect of this show; Happy Shabalala takes no prisoners and I thrive on the physical challenges of performing the various skits on stage; especially the opening sequence which is a summation of 'Die Hard meets Chuck Norris, done the Greek Way'.”

The show runs from Wednesdays to Fridays at 8pm, Saturdays at 5.30pm and 8.30pm, and Sundays at 3pm. Tickets are R150 and bookings can be made through Computicket at 083 915 8000 or www.computicket.com.
