Stepping into a "Freak Country"

If you're going to take a political statement, why not do it while cracking a joke or two. This is exactly what Paul Slabolepszy does in thriller, "Freak Country". People suddenly sit up and start to ask questions about the world beyond their safety zones like, "Does that really happen there?", or "Do they really do that?", and "What if that was me?!". Freak Country strikes a nerve, unsettling the audience with possibilities and scenarios that they could very find themselves in should they be in the wrong place at the wrong time after consuming too much alcohol while filling in official papers...
Stepping into a "Freak Country"

"Freak country," while being a thriller, is really funny. It begins with Aaron Blakely played by Antony Coleman - upstart actor or "thespian" as he prefers to refer to himself - sitting in a bleak looking office with a security force agent, played by Peter Mashigo standing to attention only barking out commands such as "sit down" from time to time. Aaron has been detained by security at the North African aiport for reasons he cannot fathom. He tries to compromise with special forces Colonel Moyanga played by Jerry Mofokeng but to no avail.

the prepostrousness of the situation is funny and yet it still scares you into the reality of what could very be possible just over the borders - how journalists, media practioners and even humanitarian workers under the slightest suspicion of toppling the powers that be could face a fate much the same as Aaron's.

Mind you china, it's got some lekker Mzansi humour, hey :-) Go see for yourself!
