Pick n Pay appoints new chief financial officer

Retailer Pick n Pay said on Monday that, further to its announcement on 19 May 2010, Bakar Jakoet had succeeded Dennis Cope as the group's chief financial officer, and had been appointed as a director of Pick n Pay Stores, effective 29 April 2011.

Cope retired from the company on 28 April, after 34 years of service to Pick n Pay.

Jakoet is a chartered accountant, and has been with the group for 26 years.

He was appointed a divisional director in 1993 and has served on the Retail Management Board since its formation in 1995.

"We are delighted with the depth of ability in the finance department of Pick n Pay, and that our succession planning has been so successful. While we will miss Dennis's invaluable contribution to every aspect of our business, Bakar's appointment is well deserved on ability, experience and hard work.

Bakar and Dennis have worked closely together during the past year, and we are confident that a seamless handover has been achieved," said Pick n Pay CE Nick Badminton.
