International Congress on Infectious Diseases to present in Cape Town
The meeting will encompass all of the fields in infectious diseases with particular attention being paid to the major infectious causes of death in Africa and elsewhere, which include AIDS, malaria, TB, pneumonia and enteric infections including typhoid fever and diarrhoea. In all of these fields, there are exciting interventions underway in Africa, the results of which will be presented in Cape Town. In addition, there are major areas of neglected tropical diseases that will be discussed and a particular focus will be on the largely uncounted burden of nosocomial infections in developing countries.
There will be a pre-congress 'Emerging Young African Investigators Symposium' on Wednesday 2 April from 1-5pm, supported by the Clinical Infectious Diseases Research Initiative at the University of Cape Town and The Wellcome Trust. This will be followed by the opening ceremony and welcome reception at 6.30pm. The Novartis Vaccines Awards, Sanofi Pasteur Awards and ISID New Investigator Award will be presented during the opening ceremony.
There is a wide list of international and local speakers listed on the website; for more information, go to www.isid.org/icid.
