The unveiling of the TTS will mark something of an anniversary for Audi: It was 10 years ago that the TT Coupe first took to the road, swiftly acquiring the status of a design icon. Ever since then the TT has been going from one strength to the next, in both hard-top and open-top form.
The TTS will be fitted with a 1.9-litre direct injection turbocharged petrol that pushes out 200kW and 350Nm. Audi says the Coupe version with manual transmission takes just 5.4 seconds from 0-100km/h with the Roadster just 0.2-seconds slower.
Fuel consumption for both models is given as about 8 litres per 100km.
TTS drivers will have a push-button choice of suspension settings: “Standard” mode for a well-balanced, comfortable ride, and “Sport” for more dynamic handling.
In terms of stand-out looks, the TTS has 18-inch aluminium wheels and newly designed bi-xenon light units with LED daytime running lights.
Transmission choices are between a manual six-speed gearshift or S tronic, which operates using six gears and two clutches positioned one behind the other and all models are armed with Audi's highly rated quattro permanent all-wheel drive.
A nice feature on the new TTS is a spoiler which extends automatically when the speed reaches 120km/h and retracts when it drops back to 80km/h.
The cabin will boast snazzy sports seats, a driver information system with new, high-resolution white display which even includes a timer function that is able to record lap times on race tracks, as well as a top-of-the-range audio system.
