Bafana make it five in a row

Bafana Bafana started 2009, and their preparations for the Confederations Cup in June, off to a winning start when they defeated Zambia 1-0 in a friendly international played at Atteridgeville's Super Stadium on Tuesday night.

Bafana have now extended their winning record to five matches and overall there were a lot of positives to come out of the match.

South Africa, who had attacked from the start, netted the winning goal in the 53rd minute through Man Of The Match, Teko Modise, who tucked in a free kick in the near post to give the home side a lead.

“We started the game very well and I was especially impressed with our defence. Zambia is a very good and technically dangerous team, so we tried by all means to make as little mistakes as possible. We must also not forget that the last time we played against Zambia we lost the match.

“I am personally impressed with the way we played. I believe that a win alone is not good enough, but you must play well too. Going forward, we need to be more comfortable when we attack because Chile is a team that can mark very well and have a very strong attack,” says Santana.

South Africa is ranked 74th position in the FIFA Rankings, moving from 85th position which we occupied at the end of 2008.
