Philip de Villiers en die Blinde Boere Orkes will also be in action. De Villiers, with his repertoire of beautiful Afrikaans tunes, is master of the boeremusiek accordion. And working with a band from the Worcester School of the Blind, he has helped create a beautiful five-piece band that plays amazing, tight boeremusiek tunes.
Valiant Swart, heralded as South Africa's Bob Dylan, adds his music (and mystic) to this outstanding line-up of local musical talent. He'll be playing with his protégée - George Snyman from Malgas - who will be performing on stage for the first time; and later with the Baardskeerdersbos Orkes, widely known for their nostalgic songs, played on the banjo, concertina and accordion.
Other favourites at the festival include "Karoo Kitaar Blues" star Hannes Coetzee, famous for his spoon-in-the-mouth slide style, and the Gramadoelas, with soulful lyrics from the pen of guitar-guru Les Javan. Vocalist Jacobus Cloete from Namaqualand makes his debut appearance at this festival together with the award-winning Bitterfontein Riel-dancers and House of David (the family band of Shasha-Lee Davids, one of the Top Ten Idols finalists) who perform traditional Cape "Pinkster-Koortjies" and other local gospel styles.
Home-grown flair will be introduced to the line-up by the Delta Optel Band and the Delta Brass Band, all of whose members live and work on Solms-Delta farm. And another local Franschhoek favourite is the Papier Langarm Orkes, which has been entertaining Bolanders for many years. The four Papier brothers - Frank, Albert, Neville and Tienie - are continuing the tradition started by their father, Marthinus Papier more than 70 years ago, when he first started performing in the Franschhoek valley.
Waterblommetjie bredie, afval potjie, chicken brijani, ouma onder die kombers and bobotie are just some of the traditional Cape foods that will be served on the day. Many of the recipes have been handed down through generations of Solms-Delta families.
This second annual Franschhoek Oesfees, will be in full swing from 13h00 - 21h00 at Solms-Delta Wine Estate - Delta Road, off the R45, Franschhoek Valley (less than an hour's drive from Cape Town).
