Cape Town bars, Cause Effect Cocktail Kitchen and Art of Duplicity named among World's 100 Best Bars

The World’s 50 Best Bars is the most respected inventory of its kind, celebrating the crème de la crème of fine-drinking establishments. In 2019, an extension of the list was introduced, accounting for bars that rank from 51–100.

Since The World's 50 Best Bars commenced in 2009, South Africa has featured just six times. This year, 20 regional academy chairs were instituted, covering different regions, to allow for a more comprehensive awards representation on the ground.

Among them, these academy chairs select 540 well-travelled industry experts, each of whom casts seven votes, based on their best bar experiences of the previous 18 months. At least three of their votes must be for bars located outside their country of residence. To secure authentic experiences when visiting bars, voters are required to remain anonymous.
