Scientists have invented a machine that makes wine non-stop
The gist of it: An American professor, working in collaboration with EPFL, is developing a miniature device for producing wine non-stop and testing different fermentation processes. The device is being designed for wine experts and winemakers, who will use it to identify the best yeast and the right fermentation temperature. The device, which an EPFL team will also work on, is capable of producing wine non-stop at the rate of one milliliter per hour. It will be used for testing fermentation processes. This innovative approach has already attracted the attention of schools like the Changins School in Switzerland, one of the top winemaking schools worldwide. Read more here.
The gist of it: The fine wine market seems to be alive and kicking despite the economic pressures felt the world over. The Liv-ex Fine Wine 1000, which tracks a broad selection of fine wines, rose 3.4% last month. With the Fine Wine 100 rising 2.1% in June, the Fine Wine 1000 went rather better with a gain of over 3%, the “largest positive move since May 2007” according to Liv-ex, while the last time the index was at a similar level was September 2011. The gist of it: The VinPro Foundation awarded five bursaries in 2016 to previously disadvantaged graduates to study towards a Wine Business Management Course at the University of Cape Town’s Graduate School of Business (GSB). The group of graduates are currently employed in several sectors throughout the wine industry value-chain, including research, winemaking, wine buying, wine marketing, trade and hospitality and tourism.
