Maxwell is a crowd-pleasing entertainer whose talents are recognised by a host of international music awards and nominations. He received 12 Grammy Award nominations and two awards at the 2010 Grammys, for Best R&B Album for "BLACKsummer'sNight" and Best Male R&B Vocal Performance for Pretty Wings also from "BLACKsummers'Night". During the same year, Maxwell received an Image Award for the most Outstanding Male Artist. Throughout his singing career of more than 20 years, Maxwell has been nominated 25 times for various awards, including the BET Awards, the American Music Awards and the Blockbuster Entertainment Awards.
R&B, funk, neo soul and jazz
Maxwell's music spans the genres of R&B, funk, neo soul and jazz. He released his debut album "Maxwell's Urban Hang Suite", which went on to sell over 2 million copies, earning him double-Platinum status and a Grammy nomination. His second album, "Embrya", followed and a live album, "MTV Unplugged", was next. A year later Maxwell released Fortunate, a single written by R Kelly and featured on the soundtrack for the 1999 film, Life. Maxwell's third album, "Now", reached number one on both the Billboard 200 album chart and Billboard's R&B album chart. After taking an extended hiatus from the music industry, Maxwell returned with "BLACKsummers'Night", which became his second album to reach number one on the Billboard Albums Top 200 chart. The second album in the trilogy, "Summers", will be out in 2014.
