Debut album from Goodnight Wembley
Earlier this month, Goodnight Wembley played a main-stage slot at Oppikoppi giving fans a taste of what to expect from "Bang!".
The five-piece band, comprising members of Taxi Violence, 7th Son and Dead Lucky, only launched as a working band in mid-2012, but quickly won over South African crowds with their larger-than-life rock sound and stage presence.
Forthcoming documentary
The 11-track "Bang!" was recorded on drummer Jean Labuschagne's farm in Stellenbosch in November 2012. Brendyn "Rusti" Rossouw of Heritage Sound was at the production controls, with mixing done by Neal Snyman. Away from all the distractions of the city, Wembley were able to focus on making the project world class and spent an entire month living, writing and recording on the farm, leaving only for the occasional show. A documentary detailing the studio process on the farm will go out to fans later this year.
The Mother City musicians were able to pull together their own grunge, rock and pop culture references creating a sound that manages to appear both fresh and nostalgic, curious and catchy, innovative yet familiar. The album also includes an exciting collaboration with Francois van Coke (VCK/Fokofpolisiekar) and members of Dead Lucky.
