DJ and producer Luciano in SA today for township workshops

Today, 26 March, 2013, DJ and producer Luciano arrives in South Africa with Bridges For Music for a series of workshops and events in the townships of Soweto (Panyaza, 26 March) and Langa (Guga S´thebe, 27 March).
DJ and producer Luciano in SA today for township workshops

Directly off the back of appearances at Ultra Music Festival in Miami, he arrives in South Africa for two exclusive shows in conjunction with the Bridges For Music initiative. Through insisting on only doing these shows in the townships and committing his time for free, he is reaffirming the concept of bridging the gaps between scenes. Before the shows, he will be joined by Vinny da Vincy (in Langa) and Oskido (in Soweto) for free workshops where they will discuss music, technology and life. The shows will start straight after the workshops at the same venue, with special performances alongside Luciano by Black Coffee, Kid Fonque, Oskido, Thibo Thazz, Floyd Lavine, Diggin4dodge and more to be added. These workshops aim to become a cultural exchange between a top artist from overseas and the key players of the South African music scene.

Luciano was the founder of the Cadenza label and the Vagabundos events in Ibiza.

Local legend from Mitchell's Plain, Ready D, will be joining the line-up in Cape Town for a talk and a demo before Luciano and Da Vincy take the stage. Apart from enjoying superstar status with a cult following all over South Africa and producing music for various groups and TV shows, Ready D has won the SA DMC Championship four times and has also won the DJ Of The Decade Award. Various publications have rated him amongst the top thirty hip hop DJs in the world.

Other acts to be included as part of the Cape Town line-up are Sir Vincent, Diloxclusiv and DJ Fosta, representing Khayelithsa, Gugulethu and Langa, offering the possibility to young local artists to showcase their talent.

After the success of its previous workshops with Richie Hawtin and Skrillex, Bridges For Music continues with its series of social events, making music and world-class artists a tool to bring people from different communities together and inspire the new generation of South African artists.

This event has no profit interest. All artists have committed to play for free and all benefits will be used by Bridges For Music to support and develop the music schools in the area.

Workshops start at 4pm, are free and only through invitation by sending an email to gro.cisumrofsegdirb@spohskrow.

The party starts at 7pm. Only through invitations from facebook.com/bridgesformusic, Olmeca Tequila and Red Bull Mobile.
