Mr Cat & the Jackal take a different route with Where's my shoes

Why did you decide not to go the conceptual route this time round with Where's my Shoes?
MCATJ:We've always wanted to do a real performance video. This concept suited the song so well. We did the coins and the brooms on the album recording, so the concept for the video came quite naturally.

Friends were included in the cast of this video, this should have made filming rather lively. Why this decision?

MCATJ:We needed a big cast... so who you gonna call? No, not ghostbusters, your friends... It made shooting alot of fun.

Who wrote WMS, and what inspired it?

MCATJ:Jacques wrote it. It is a song about loss.

Audiences love WMS. Apart from the catchy lyrics, why do you think this song is so endearing?

MCATJ:Everybody can relate to the concept, losing something you love. You feel sorry for the bergie waking up without his shoes...

At live performances of this song the audience members often take off their shoes and wave them above their heads. When did this start happening and did it happen naturally?

MCATJ:Yes, it happened completely spontaneously. The first time it happened was in Bohemia in Stellenbosch, I remember some guy waving his rollerblades in the air. Since then, somehow, everywhere we go audiences take their shoes off... In Potch they even throw their shoes on stage!

How do you choose which songs to capture in video?

MCATJ:It's hard to explain, but we somehow always know which song should get a music video, and which one to do next.

You're releasing a third album later this year, what can we expect?

MCATJ:We're only releasing the first single later this year. The album will be out early next year. We've added a bit of rock...

Any plans to introduce more original instruments to your already extensive musical artillery?

MCATJ:We collect instruments, so as they come across our path, we incorporate them in our music.

Where will 2013 take MCTJ?

MCATJ:Hopefully to Europe.
