Special Ster-Kinekor screening of The Hunger Games
Ster-Kinekor Theatres is offering movie lovers an opportunity to take a sneak peek at the latest Hollywood blockbuster The Hunger Games. Starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth, the movie recently launched to rave reviews overseas.
See The Hunger Games first on 9 April (official release date is 13 April) or attend special midnight screenings on 12 April where audiences will also receive a free branded Hunger Games promotional item.
Set in the not too distant future, a weakened North America is replaced by Panem, a country divided into the Capitol and 12 other districts. The Hunger Games take place every year, with two representatives from each district pitted against one another. There is only one rule, and that is to stay alive.
Trying to save her sister
As part entertainment and part brutality The Hunger Games are broadcasted throughout Panem with all citizens required to watch. Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) volunteers for the games in an attempt to save her younger sister after her sibling was selected through a lottery, pitting herself against stronger and highly trained representatives. As a young woman, Katniss has been forced to look after her family through hunting and scavenging. Using these skills in the games, she utilises the survival skills she has learnt, but will it be enough for her to stay alive for the duration of the games?
From the director of Seabiscuit (2003) and Pleasantville (1998), The Hunger Games is a movie directed by a fan of the books. Gary Ross tells the story of Katniss and other competitors through the creatively skillful use of action and emotion. Ross emphasises the use of the first-person to tell the story, which brings in an urgency and subjectivity into the film which is bound to keep moviegoers clinging to their seats.
The Hunger Games will be screened at midnight on 12 April at the following Ster-Kinekor venues: The Zone, Sandton City, Carnival City, Fourways Mall, Cresta, East Rand Mall, Greenstone, Brooklyn Mall, Kolonnade, Gateway, Cavendish Square, Cape Gate and Somerset Mall.
