Derailment of goods train to cause service disruption
Delays are expected for Gauteng Metrorail services between Germiston - Katlhong and Kwesine due to engineering and railway tracks repair work at Elsburg, the result of the Transnet Freight Rail goods train that derailed last Thursday, 10 September 2009.
Affected services are:
- Metrorail will run bus services from Germiston to Katlehong from Friday, 11 September 2009, until the repair work on the tracks are completed. The expected completion date of the track rehabilitation project is Thursday, 17 September 2009.
- A Metrorail shuttle service will operate from Kwesine to Katlehong during this period.
- A valid Metrorail ticket can be used interchangeably for the bus service during this period.Metrorail advised that this arrangement only applies during the track rehabilitation period.
Heavy delays of up to 45 minutes are expected as a result of the track repair works, Metrorail thus urges commuters to use alternative transportation during this period.
