Telkom hearings underway at Tribunal
Allegations of anti-competitive behaviour against Telkom are being scrutinised by the Competition Tribunal where the company stands accused of abusing its dominance in the telecommunications market by charging excessive prices, refusing access to essential facilities and engaging in price discrimination.
The Mail & Guardian reports that the alleged abuses date back to 2002 when the initial complaint was lodged against Telkom. The Tribunal's hearings have been delayed by numerous legal challenges.
Naturally, Telkom has denied the allegations and is defending itself at the hearings. If found guilty, Telkom could face a whopping fine of R3,5-billion.
