Shortage of consumables at Seshego Hospital shocking

Limpopo Health and Social Development MEC, Dr Norman Mabasa, has vowed to hold the hospital management accountable for the shortage of basic consumables at Seshego Hospital.

Today, Mabasa made an unannounced visit to the hospital in an effort to improve delivery of health services following a number of reports regarding poor state of service and shortage of basic consumables from staff and patients.

The reports about shortage of basic consumables came through the department's hotline from concerned patients.

On arrival at the hospital this morning, Dr Mabasa was appalled at finding some of the reports to be true and vowed to hold management accountable.

"Basics such as soap and tissue are non-negotiable, under no circumstances should patients have to suffer for mere tissue, and we cannot have a situation where the shortage of such is a norm," said a disappointed Mabasa.

He promised to continue to make unannounced visits to health facilities, who fail to show significant improvement despite interventions from the provincial department and urged the public to continue to report, complain and complement the department's services through its hotline on 0800 91 91 91.
