A cherry-flavoured pill helps to reduce child malaria

A cherry-flavoured anti-malarial pill is effective against malaria in children in Tanzania.

Researchers, in a study published in The Lancet, have found that the pill is easier for children to swallow because it is not bitter and does not need to be crushed before being given to children.

Salim Abdulla of the Ifakara Health Institute in Tanzania said the new cherry-flavoured pill was easy to administer and effective.

Health experts say the pill could help to promote better outcomes from treatment and delay the development of drug resistant strains of the disease.
