Food Award winners announced

Executive chef of the Grande Provence restaurant in Franschoek, Peter Templehoff, is the new Sunday Times Food Chef of the year. His crown came with a with a cash prize of R30 000.

Templehoff is an internationally experienced chef and beat out fellow food maestros Matthew Gordon and Rudii Liebenburg for the title.

Alex Gaspar, a junior sous chef at the Saxon Hotel, won the Sunday Times Young Chef of the Year (Qualified) Award.

The Young Chef of the Year Award (Unqualified) was won by 19-year old Alexi Mostert.

The Sunday Times Great Tastes Awards presented a number of awards to South African producers for their innovative creations that celebrate local ingredients in a variety of categories. Winners in each category received a prize of R 10 000 each. The winners were:
