BBC, DStv host Nigerian media event

LAGOS: Advertisers and their media agencies recently attended a presentation by John Simpson, CBE and BBC's World Affairs editor, at a lunch presentation organised by BBC World News and DStv Ad Sales. The event, which took place on 25 February, 2009 in Lagos, was hosted by Sean O' Hara, BBC World News executive director, and Katie Waxman, BBC World News senior account manager.

Sean O'Hara began the event by providing guests with an overview of BBC World News, the BBC's 24 hour international news channel. John Simpson followed by sharing his experiences of news reporting from around the world.

Said O'Hara, “It was a pleasure to be back in Lagos and hear about the future plans of the agencies and clients who shared their time with us. We were delighted to offer our unique three-screen solution to advertisers seeking to promote themselves to the elusive and exclusive BBC audience in Nigeria, across the African continent and worldwide. BBC World News, bbc.com and bbc.com on mobile devices are hugely popular destinations for the kind of upscale audiences the established and emerging Nigerian powerhouses are targeting.

“We look forward to working with those we met here in Lagos and those we have yet to meet. In particular we're excited about offering Nigerian advertisers the opportunity to become sponsors of our new editorial initiatives including a potential programme with the working title of African Business Review.”

Henry Meyer, regional director DStv Ad Sales, said, “Having moved to Lagos about a month ago, it was a good opportunity to meet clients and learn more about their needs outside of a formal office meeting. The presence of John Simpson was the highlight of the proceedings as guests were keen to hear from him judging by the many questions that were posed.”
