Themba Sibeko appointed CEO of Gauteng Film Office

The Gauteng Economic Development Agency (GEDA) has announced the appointment of Themba Sibeko as Chief Executive Officer of the Gauteng Film Office, effecitve April 2.

Selected from a skilled and competent group of 42 applicants, Sibeko brings with him knowledge and expertise gained in the film industry, both locally and abroad.

After completing an honours degree in Fine Arts from the New York Institute of Technology in 1987, Themba Sibeko began his film career working for a variety of film production companies in New York. Over the years, he has worked with the likes of Mary J Blige, Sean Puffy Combs, Sony Music, Hollywood Director Bill Duke and Danny Glover.

Founder of the Siyaka Film Africa Project, (an empowerment initiative based on workshops for aspiring filmmakers living in Alexander Township), his production house over the last year has been responsible for a variety of film endeavours which consist of short films, documentaries and original projects for South African television including a recent segment produced for SABC -3's Special Assignment.

What GEDA aims to accomplish through the film office is a production resource for local and international film, television and commercial industries, and to help to ensure that Gauteng is able to benefit from this multi-billion dollar industry.

Services on offer to local and foreign producers will include information on locations, services, facilities, personnel, permits, climate, transport, travel, tourism and infrastructure. All of this facilitation will be done with the full support and co-operation of the Department of Foreign Affairs.
