JPS Africa introduces new medical procedures to SA

JPS Africa is launching a bloodless, injection-less and painless method of male circumcision and sub-dermal contraceptive implants.

The new circumcision technology aims to assist South Africa in reaching the target of conducting 4.3 million male medical circumcisions by December 2016. The company is training health care providers on a new procedure using a Prepex device and believes the new technology will help to reach the target, as men who were not prepared to receive injections or have sutures in their penis, are choosing this method.

The company is also introducing sub-dermal contraceptive implants, which are effective, safe, reversible, convenient and offer three years of highly reliable contraception without interfering with sexual life. The company trains nurses and doctors on the proper procedure to insert and remove the sub-dermal contraceptive implants and it is finding that women prefer the implants, as contraceptive injections require the patient to return to the clinic every three months, while contraceptive pills only last one month.

JPS Africa has already trained 188 nurses with more than 7,000 insertions of implants done post-training, which took place in Mpumalanga, the Northern Cape, Gauteng and most recently in KwaZulu-Natal in November 2015, as part of a newly funded project.
